Life is beautiful...even if and even when

This season may not look like I imagined, but it’s still beautiful.
Over the years, my philosophy on beauty has changed.
I’m not going to say I was noble and sat down one day and decided it should change.
Cancer changed it.
Treatment changed it.
Life changed it.
For years, I believed the lies that so many of us hear every day.
Be thinner.
Look younger.
Hide the gray.
Fix the wrinkles.
Wear this.
Buy that.
It was exhausting. And never enough.
The strange thing is that every time I thought I had finally “arrived,” ten more things appeared that I needed to “fix” about myself.
Then cancer interrupted everything.
When your health is uncertain, something becomes incredibly clear.
One day, people will gather to remember my life.
I don’t want them to say, “look how young she looks,” or “She stayed so skinny.” Why care so much in life, if I wouldn’t care in death?
I want people to remember that I loved well.
That I encouraged people.
That I pointed them toward hope.
Somewhere along the way, I forgot something God had already declared to be true.
I was already beautiful because I was created by Him.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I believe strongly in caring for ourselves. Tending to our bodies is a gift. It’s one of the reasons Elms Farm was created. But there is a difference between caring for yourself and believing you must constantly become…..more.
Now I’m about 50 pounds heavier, grayer and my hair is falling out..again. But surprisingly, I’m learning (slowly) to love this season.
Not because everything is perfect.
But because my worth was never tied to the number on a scale, the wrinkles around my eyes, or the massive amount of hair in my brush.
That realization has shaped Elms Farm more than I realized.
We, truly, believe every person is created with inherent beauty and worth.
That’s why we craft products that nourish rather than promise perfection, support rather than shame, and celebrate the beauty of every season of life.
Your skin has carried you through a lifetime.
Care for it well.
Whether you ever purchase a single product from Elms Farm or not, I hope you know this:
You are worthy of care, kindness, and love exactly where you are today.
You are never one improvement away from being worthy. Because your worth was never something you had to earn.
